Concert Photography

Not landscape photography related but back in November 2015 I had the great pleasure of going to the U2 gig in the O2 Arena in Dublin . Great gig, in fact one of the best I’ve ever been to. From a photography point of view I brought along my Fuji X100s as something to capture the night out, didn’t want to be lugging around a DSLR as this was a rare night out with my wife (needed free hands for plastic cups!). Just click on the images and swipe through to see them full size.

I really taught I wouldn’t be getting anything of any interest, especially because the Fuji has such a wide angle fixed lense (Fixed 23mm F2 lens – 35mm equivalent) and I brought it really for its small size and low light capability. The configuration of the stage meant we were quite close to the action and I was quite happy with the images I got in the end and not hampered by the lack of zoom capability.

I subsequently brought it to a small Brian Deady gig in Waterford and again the camera performed really well.

Not really a full review, but I have to say the Fuji X100s is a really enjoyable camera to use and I think it will appeal to those interested in photography more due to its ease of manual control. I often use it for family days out as well again not to be hampered with a bigger camera and it really does a great job here to. If I were to have a gripe it would be that the focusing speed isn’t brilliant but for most occasions is does suffice. My biggest concern when purchasing (which I did second hand) was the fixed focal length and that really didn’t materialise, you would be amazed at how quick you get used to it and simply use your feet.
