I was lucky enough to return to Connemara recently with a few photography club mates. This was the first proper photography trip I have taken in a few years and I always enjoy being able to dedicate proper time to it rather than trying to squeeze in an hour here and there. This was a return trip for me and the last time I visited I was really only getting to know my way around a camera. This trip involved returning to a few locations I had been before and see if I could find something different and also to explore a few new locations. I think we were a little early in the season and I feel the colour in the landscape would have been better a few weeks later as the rustic colours of this landscape start to come through.

I’ll start with the first scene I visited and it’s a place I have seen photographed before but not as extensively like a lot of locations in Connemara. While I knew the general location I didn’t know exactly where it was and it took quite a bit of research on Google maps to find it.

There is an obvious choice for composition but I tried a few other options and aspect ratios to see if I could find something less obvious. I’ve included what I managed to come away with. This was my first stop as I arrived in Connemara on a Friday evening, time was a little tight and conditions were a bit disappointing for sunset, but in some ways the moody conditions suited the scene.

I’ve also included below another scene captured on the side of the road near this location on the road to Screebe, something I hoped to do a lot more of on this trip. This was taken on the way home from the trip and resulted in rambling around in the car and stopping when something caught my eye.   I’ll follow up this post with a few more images from some of the more frequently shot locations as well as a few more I haven’t taken before.
