An Searrach, Dingle

An Searrach 2 near Kinard Beach on the Dingle Peninsula

“An Searrach” (The Foal) is a stunning Sea stack off the coast of the Dingle Peninsula. While it is easily visible from the wonderful beach of Kinard, I have always felt it is worth the hike along the coast to get a closer view of it.

These images were taken over 2 visits in 2015 and 2016 in quiet different conditions, fairly obvious from the images in this post. After reviewing images from the first visit I felt the composition was stronger if the sea stack had a closer relationship to the horizon, requiring a lower vantage point. Also there are certain vantage points that really demonstrate more clearly the origins of this sea stack’s name.

I had really considered this set of images as unfinished as I wanted to explore the area and wider environment more thoroughly, particularly the coast further east, but maybe that will have to wait a little longer. The beach at Kinard is also a place I haven’t explored fully with the camera in hand, the priority was always given to carrying shovels, buckets and picnic blankets!

I had shared two of these images back at the time but it was interesting to revisit the original edits, in both cases I felt the best option was to hit the reset button and start again. Our taste can change quiet a lot over time, and hopefully the skills in the editting have improved slightly also.
