Caliso bay, Co Waterford

The trawl through the archives continues as this lockdown persists. This set of images are from the beautifully named Caliso Bay in West Waterford. I had considered these images a “work in progress” and there is still some more potential to be explored more fully but I will add to it in future. This is a beach that is often overlooked for some of the more popular areas in the locality.

This first subject on the beach was a washed up tree trunk, captured a few years ago. It was a very opportunistic shoot and the intention was to revisit it in better light and with the tide in around the roots. When I did return it had disappeared , I noticed it beside Youghal bridge a few miles away a couple of months later ironically. Of the 3 images above I feel the last image with the wider aspect ratio (above) worked best, just allowing the subject a bit more room to breath.

The next area I’ll explore is further down to the west side of the beach with some stunning and unusual colours and tecturers in the rocks, shown above. I’d have preferred some more opportunities to capture this in dawn light which I was only able to do once. Some of the B&W images i felt were worthy of including here as the strong graphical nature appealed to me.

The final area I spent some time was the far west side of the beach, and again the unusual colours and textures were worth spending some time with.
